5:00 Fridays – POMFroid

by Ilinap on June 11, 2010

I’ve never been much of a soda drinker. We have a practically full 12-pack of Coke in the pantry from when my brother visited for Thanksgiving. My sons keep cajoling me to use it to clean the toilets after I tried to scare them with some urban lore about the supreme icky factor of soda. We have some ginger ale because it’s the world’s perfect mixer and mends tummy aches for folks of all ages. Back in college I cheated on Diet Coke with Diet Pepsi. I am also old enough to have drunk Tab. Once in a blue moon I crave a Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper. But for the most part, soda doesn’t do much to quench my thirst.

However…when Mac Daddy brings home a case of Fresca time to time, I quiver with anticipation. It’s clearly an impulse buy for him. My impluse buys are more along the Us Weekly and chocolate covered edamame variety. Mac Daddy buys soda.

And I mix the drinks.

Tonight I made a concoction that is sure to beat the heat to pulp. Since it’s feeling like Hades around here already, I like something cold and refreshing this time of year.

Go to France for decadent pommes frites. Visit me for POMFroid.

POMFroid

1 shot vodka (Never the bottom shelf stuff!)

1 shot Hendrick’s gin

1/2-3/4 can Fresca

2 ounces POM pomegranate juice

splash of orange juice

fresh lime juice

Fill a cup with ice. Use a plastic (BPA free!) cup that you can take out to the porch or patio. Pour in the vodka and gin. Top with Fresca, POM, and OJ. Squeeze in fresh lime juice and drop in the lime wedge for a splash of color. The rich ruby color is so summery and cheerful. I just might make a color swatch to get some custom lipstick made.

When the temps get hot, have a POM Froid to chill out. Don’t blame me if you drink too much and get all hawt and bothered.
