Earth Day Meets Potty Humor

Ilinap · April 15, 2014 ·

This post is part of the HEALTHY ESSENTIALS® 2014 program by Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. and The Motherhood, who sent me a box of products and compensated me for my time. Opinions, experiences and photos shared here are all my own, and I hope you enjoy them.

I believe that every day is Earth Day. The significance of Earth Day, and now Earth Month, is not to honor the earth for just this time. It is a time to reflect upon what we can do every single day. Each day brings a bevy of choices. We can’t reasonably do everything possible to help save the planet, but we can make choices to benefit the planet. Some choices are enormous – solar panels and geothermal heating and cooling, while some are small – pack reusable containers for school lunch instead of using plastic bags. I can err on the side of being anal and even recycle tags from clothing. Every little bit helps, right? In aggregate, all of our small acts make a ginormous difference.

Admittedly, I am often overwhelmed by all the things I must do to do my part for the environment. There things I could do, should do, and actually do do. At this point my sons would crack up that I just said “do do.” Potty humor abounds. Now that I think about it, this is an excellent segue to something I learned from Healthy Essentials from Johnson & Johnson: Recycling in the bathroom! I particularly love the little cheat sheet that tells me what is recyclable (props for the list of specific Johnson & Johnson products that have recyclable packaging!). Mac Daddy and I have these debates every week by our recycling bin. We can never remember what goes in the bin and what goes in the trash.

The bottom line is (oh, cracking myself up here), that it’s no hyperbole or cliche to say our children will inherit the earth. We set an example in ways big and small. It’s so easy to wave your hands up in the air like you don’t care, but let’s save that bit for the dance floor, shall we? Check out Healthy Essentials for tips on how to help Mother Earth (and find some great deals while you’re at it!).

Other than saving Mother Earth and celebrating Earth Day everyday, know what else is cool? Johnson & Johnson’s Donate A Photo app. “For every photo you share, Johnson & Johnson donates $1 to a cause you want to help – which does things like fix up a public park, get medicine for an infant, or help kids play sports safely. You can donate one photo a day, every day. With a photo a day, you’ll make a difference by raising money and awareness for causes you care about. Share with your friends and you’ll help your causes meet their goals faster.” Awesome, right?

While I’m doing my part to save the Earth, I’ll also try to lay off the potty humor. Butt…then again…
