A List of Our Summer Adventures

Summer break is upon us. I look forward to this with visions of hammock lying and puddle jumping. I play scenes in my head of running through bucolic fields and giggling in mounds of dirt. We actually do not have a hammock. Whenever there are puddles there’s lightning. I hate nature and don’t actually want to play in the dirt. I delude myself even in my own daydreams.

Bird and Deal create a Summer Adventure list every year. We’ve already started this year’s list, which is a tad late considering this is the last week of school. Well, they do go on Monday for the official last day of school. What’s up with that, Wake County?!

Here’s a list of what’s on tap at the house of Dirt & Noise this summer:

  1. Go to a nighttime outdoor movie at the NC Art Museum
  2. Visit the Civil Rights Museum (with Bird only since Deal is too young for that)
  3. Plant a vegetable garden
  4. Slip n’ Slide in the backyard
  5. Have a lemonade stand
  6. Go to Old Salem
  7. Make cupcakes, popsicles, pies
  8. Do science experiments found on Pinterest
  9. Make a garden stepping stone
  10. Paint on canvas
  11. Decoupage desk chairs
  12. Write stories
  13. Go to the beach
  14. Launch rockets
  15. Volunteer at the food bank
  16. Write letters to pen pals
  17. Have a water gun fight
  18. Launch water balloons
  19. Play WiiU Sing Party
  20. Visit SciWorks
  21. Go to the Greensboro Science Center
  22. Visit the NC Capitol
  23. Take a photography walk
  24. Make homemade ice cream
  25. Draw. Draw. Draw.
  26. Go to the library every chance we get
  27. Go to local spots like the Joel Lane House
  28. Visit Duke Gardens
  29. Play tennis
  30. Hit some golf balls at the driving range
  31. Visit the Nasher Museum of Art
  32. Ride a boat in Wilmington
  33. Play laser tag
  34. Indulge in arcade games, mini golf, bumper boats, and junk food
  35. Refine our Prancercize form (Ha! Just seeing if you’re paying attention.)

Chime in with your own list of adventures. What are we missing?

This is such a great list. I can’t wait till my boys are a little older and we can do more of these things. You should also check out Three Bears Acres in Creedmore… great place for outdoor play.
