Racism Still A Factor in This Election

Ilinap · October 25, 2012 ·

I know many people don’t give a shit about facts. There are plenty of Romney supporters who will vote against their own best interests. If you are a woman supporting the Dirty Rotten Scoundrel, you are one of them. It has to be said.

There are plenty of people who loathe President Barack Obama yet cannot cite one single fact to back up this seething hate. They do not even regurgitate the pundit propaganda of Fox “News” because they don’t care to see beyond what colors their world. I know people who won’t vote for a man of color. Period. They wax about other issues and cannot hold their own in a debate or simple discussion. You, the racists out there, won’t change your minds. You either don’t count yourself as racist, or worse, wear it as a badge. You will cast your vote for anyone but Obama. It’s not that you’re voting for Mitt Romney as much as you are voting against a black man. It’s an undeniable factor in this election, an undeniable reality of our world.

I am sick over this. I fluctuate between feeling ire and bewilderment. I know people who share this mindset. I’ve heard the murmurs at restaurants and playgrounds and coffee shops. I even endured it on a three hour car ride from a woman who had just been a part of a girls’ weekend getaway to the beach with me and some friends. I’m sick about what these people have done to our country. America is better than this. Racism is still very much a part of our history and our current paradigm. It’s matters not that I live in the South so stereotypes be damned.

Do you think I live in a hyperbolic state of paranoia?

Take a look at this and see for yourself. And there’s also this.

Mostly, it makes me sad. So terribly sad.
