These Are Children, Not Statistics

Ilinap · March 28, 2013 ·

The current Republican government of North Carolina (I cannot bring myself to call these scoundrels leaders because they are anything but.) continue to undermine voters, disregard protocol, negate contracts, devalue teachers, thrash the poor, stomp on minorities, and play children as pawns. How easy it is to rest on laurels that are well groomed and tidy. How easy it is to judge from a perch high atop Easy Street.

Children come without baggage. Society owes its utmost of goodness to protect, nurture, love, educate, and advocate for children. They are voiceless without us. What continues to upset me is how people continue to worry only about their own children. I am pretty confident that Bird and Deal will be just fine. And so I use my voice for those who can’t. My advocacy is for ALL children, yes, even the jerkwads’ kids because it’s not about the jerkwads, it’s about the kids.

I implore, North Carolina (and the nation, in fact), to please consider our children an INVESTMENT, not an expense. Look at these glorious faces and marvel in their innocence, their hope, their promise. Please stop looking at children through a lens clouded with dollar signs. They are, after all, the reason God thinks the world should go on, no?
