What You Can Give for My Birthday

Ilinap · September 17, 2012 ·

Today is my birthday. I love my birthday. I don’t gripe about getting older because aging is a privilege. Imagine the alternative…

I am fortunate to have never wanted for anything. I have always had a loving family, good meals on my table, a safe place to lay my head, and a full heart. I also have a husband with extraordinary taste so I always have something swoon worthy to unwrap on my birthday.

Today I ask that you all ring in my 44th year on this planet by checking out the following organizations that tug at my heart.

I celebrate today by paying it forward. I celebrate today hoping that no child faces abuse and that no child feels the grumble of a perpetually empty belly. And I pray that Kathleen Bertrand’s children feel the embrace of their mother’s angel wings.

SAFEchild – I am serving on the board of this marvelous organization. Our goal and hope and wish is to eliminate child abuse in Wake County. Abuse doesn’t discriminate. We protect our whole community by helping families who have tasted the tears of abuse.

Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina – I am proud to serve as a social media ambassador for this organization. I have seen children who sit next to my sons in class benefit from programs like the ones the food bank offers. What a service to our community!

Fund for Kathleen Ann Bertrand’s children – Three children have been orphaned after the tragic shooting of their mother and subsequent suicide of their father in a small shopping center a few blocks from my sons’ school. Domestic violence has haunted this family. We can help.

Peace.
