Daddy’s Drink – 5:00 Fridays

5:00 Fridays TM

Mac Daddy is the ultimate dad. He has been since day one. I never loved him more than when I watched him cradle newborn baby Bird in the middle of the night when we brought him home from the hospital. Our house was a disheveled disaster as we were in the midst of renovations. Nothing was in place, and the contents of three bedrooms were stacked into one. We had room in our bedroom for just the two of us and a bassinet. I don’t thrive in chaos and really needed Mac Daddy’s composure. He has always been my rock.

Bird and Deal would concur. They know their daddy is someone they can count on (and climb on). Mac Daddy is the kind of father who comes home from work and tosses a football around with his sons and pops into the kitchen to whip up some homemade salsa to top the grilled fish he monitored adeptly while playing quarterback. He laughs easily, hugs tightly, and loves fiercely. Mac Daddy is affectionate and gentle, serving as a wonderful role model to our sons whose worlds are too peppered with negative images and ideals of what it means to be a man. In short, Mac Daddy isn’t the kind of man who says he is “babysitting” when he is parenting. I hate when people do that. Seriously, I want to sock someone whenever I hear the whole “I’m babysitting my kids” line.

Our family is lucky to have Mac Daddy serving as both our rock and our glue. He brings joy to this house. It comforts me to know that he is setting the example and the bar for the kind of fathers our sons will be. He is truly a gift, and nothing I shower him with adequately expresses our love for him.

Today I toast Mac Daddy and all the fathers who fill our worlds with love, fun, and potty humor antics that make little kids guffaw.

Daddy’s Drink

2 ounces Makers Mark
2 ounces orange juice
3 ounces lemonade
1 teaspoon ginger simple syrup

Grab an extra large glass and fill it halfway with ice. A Tervis tumbler is perfect for the dad in your life to take this drink outdoors to chill out. Add Makers Mark, orange juice, and lemonade. Stir in ginger simple syrup. Hammock optional.

Happy Father’s Day!
