Just for Moms – 5:00 Fridays

Ilinap · May 6, 2011 ·

There have been lots of quips about what makes the world go ’round. But we mothers know the real truth here.

Mothers make the world go ’round.

We all live our own brand of motherhood. We carry on with equal parts of smiles and grimaces as we Kerry Strug our way through days that follow sleepless nights. The worrying never ends. The physical demands make way for mental challenges. We relive our own heartache and dreams through our children’s steps. As mothers, we wear guilt as an ugly wart that we either cover with overcompensation or wear boldly as martyrdom. Our outfits are marred with mysterious bodily fluids, and we easily offer a sleeve when a tissue isn’t within reach. We cuddle and coddle. We lose our patience and lose our minds.

We didn’t know Motherhood was a thankless job until we signed the contract. We also know, this sisterhood of ours, that while being a mother pays nothing, the rewards still make us rich.

Hats off to all the moms out there today. And a salute to the fathers and men who support us.

But mostly I want to take a moment to thank Bird and Deal. They’re the ones who made me a mom and gave me my life’s greatest challenge and fulfillment.

Just for Moms

Ginger vodka (Skyy makes a ginger infused vodka if you don’t want to infuse your own.)
Pineapple juice
Champagne or Prosecco
Candied ginger

Note: This drink should be made by someone else while you’re lounging with a fresh pedicure and new shoes dangling off the arm of a chaise lounge perched in the sun. Royal Wedding issue of People magazine optional.

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in one shot of ginger vodka and 2-3 ounces of pineapple juice. Shake and strain into a martini glass. Top with champagne/prosecco. Garnish with a slice of candied ginger. A mint leaf will do if you don’t have any candied ginger on hand. This drink is also lovely with a colored sugar rimmed glass.

He’s got 30 HR thunder in his bat, is going to be in a RBI spot in the Angels
lineup, and shouldn’t be under as much pressure in LA as he was in Toronto due to his
insane contract. However, the speedy Cardinals would rebound
to win the World Series in seven games against the power-hitting Milwaukee club.
