Happy Anniversary, Mac Daddy!

Ilinap · March 14, 2011 ·

The best thing about being happily married is not having to get gussied up all the time.

When Mac Daddy proposed I thought he was joking. He woke up one morning and said, “Hey, let’s get married in Key West when we’re there on vacation!” I snickered.

We were leaving in three weeks.

It was only appropriate that our first dance was to a Jimmy Buffett song, Tin Cup Chalice. You can imagine how Bird and Deal wince when we embrace and dance to it whenever it pops up on the iPod. While they quiver now, one day they will be happy to know they have parents who love each other fiercely.

Yes and now you heard my strange proposal

So get that Packard up and let’s move

I wanna be there before the day

Tries to steal away and leave us behind

I’ve made up my mind

And I wanna be there

I wanna go back down and die beside the sea there

With a tin cup for a chalice, fill it up with good red wine

And I’m a chewin on a honeysuckle vine

Steel is the traditional 11th anniversary gift. I could insert a cheesy joke here about how Mac Daddy already stole my heart years ago but I’ll refrain. Suffice it to say that I am a lucky girl. Everyday I am grateful (and in awe) that he picked me. Oh, it’s not like it was a bridal line up or a mail order bride catalog sale. You know what I mean.

I married my best friend who makes me laugh and begrudgingly laughs at my wicked smart goofy sense of humor. We make a great team. Mac Daddy gave me the family and the life and the love that I yearned for. He is the antidote to my anal, persnickety ways. He soothes me when I am hard on myself. He calms me when I’m a basket case. And in return, I hope I do the same for him. Our life is rich indeed.

There is nothing greater in life than loving and knowing you are loved in return.

Reading this made my heart swell. I think I’ve told you before, but I’m getting married in Jamaica (definitely not your typical wedding) in July. I feel the same way about my Boo (my nickname for him) that you do for your Mac Daddy. He is my everything and I really don’t know what I’d do without him! Happy Anniversary!!! Have a beautiful day!
