Everything I Ever Needed to Know About Life I Learned at BlogHer

Ilinap · August 11, 2010 ·

Dance Fever. Feverish Dancing.

Charm City Cakes made this all pretty and sparkly for the Mamapop Sparkelcorn partay.

This is what you see when you look up Rockstars in the dictionary.

This is Debbie. I've been loving her from afar for years. I peed a little when I met her.

See how Debbie rocks the glam shoes? See why I love her so?

Gawd, I love these women.

  1. We are all people, human, fallible yet beautiful.
  2. Bloggers are changing the world, one megabyte at a time.
  3. We all have bits of faulty wiring and flickering bulbs but we all light up when we smile. We glow when we laugh.
  4. Unicorns are more creepy than bedazzling.
  5. With people and cake alike, it’s what’s on the inside that counts.
  6. Blogging and Writing just might be mutually exclusive.
  7. Celebrate ideas.
  8. Inspiration lurks in the unseemliest of places. As in a Korean karaoke joint tucked on a side street in Midtown.
  9. Dance at every opportunity.
  10. Turns out Alexis was right; regrets are for dinner parties.
  11. Sometimes it’s nice to carry on with wild abandon as if you are not someone’s mother.
  12. Pack lightly and carry a big camera.
  13. 80s music never gets tiresome. The Cure for your Journey is to dance with some Men Without Hats and Pretty Young Things.
  14. Blogging is about people.
  15. It is a blessing to be loved and to show that you love.
  16. Frolicking among friends is what every mother must take the time to do.
  17. Sparks fly online, but real sizzling connection happens mano a mano. Better yet, womano a womano.
  18. It is entirely possible to have an electrifying grand time in New York City without leaving the one-block radius of your hotel.
  19. Creativity fuels the spirit and fills the soul.
  20. If you admire someone, tell her. Don’t let a brain crush go unspoken. (“Brain crush” coined by the inimitable Deb on the Rocks.)
  21. Always keep a banana in your bag. Airlines, trains, and conference sessions don’t serve food.
  22. Shoes do make the girl. And comfort need not be sacrificed in the name of fashion (Debbie not withstanding…I bet she wasn’t standing for long in those shoes anyway.).
  23. Laughter is a fine, fine tonic. Even better when paired with gin.
  24. The friends you spoon with you stay with.
  25. It ain’t about the swag.
  26. To read a writer’s words is to know her.
  27. Women are never too old for a slumber party.
  28. Rockstars walk among us.
  29. Blogging gives us a voice. Collectively, we shall rule the world, or at least rock it.
  30. Pen and paper don’t ever go out of style.
  31. With real friends you can drink and be merry as comfortably as you can stink and be hairy.
  32. Your Creative Muse just might be staring back at you in the mirror.
  33. Much love can be shared over food.
  34. Hugging increases your hemoglobin.
  35. If you love her words, you shall love her entire being. I’m talkin’ to you Caroline, Corina, Debbie, Amie, Kim.

This is the best thing I’ve ever read in my life.

Except for maybe The Fountainhead. I did rather enjoy that.

(Loving you in my mind right NOW.)

(I am putting those shoes in a glass case to gaze upon longingly but never wear again. They are the Cruel Shoes.)

Perfect. Simply perfect. We learned, we laughed, we loved. We became soul sisters.

And as for #22, you, me, shoe shopping when I am in town. I will learn from one of the best.

Great lessons. I especially loved: “If you admire someone, tell her. Don’t let a brain crush go unspoken. (“Brain crush” coined by the inimitable Deb on the Rocks.)” I made an effort to tell every single person i read how much I love their tweets, blog, pictures, whatever. Life is too short not to hand out genuine compliments.

Hello, lovely post. Sigh. I wish I had brought my big camera. I do believe we don’t have a photo together from this year. FAIL.

Thank you for introducing me to your fine friends. Party in my room in San Diego!

I didn’t know you were there!!!! I would have tracked you down!! ARGH!

Btw did you send any packages using those services? I sent 2 boxes of swag to my sister. They have both mysteriously “disappeared” -the hotel doesn’t have them, & UPS has no record of them.

    I’m SOoooooo bummed I missed you. I can’t believe it…..
