SONY PSP and Me

Share

I have never been a gaming girl. Pong used to stress me out. Ms. Pac Man chewed me up and spat me out. Centipede about made my heart explode. I’m aging myself here. What I mean is, video games have never been my thing. My older brother had always been a fanatic. Even at the ripe old age of #@!*& he is still at it. I preferred books to games and channel surfing to online gaming. In fact, when I hear the word “game,” I think of venison.

Bird got a DSi for Christmas. I have yet to touch it. My friend Carmen was telling me all about some swanky games for the gadget that sounded a tish old for a first grader. It took me a while to realize that she was talking about games she liked to play. On her own gaming system. Wow, so grown ups play with these things too. Other than my big brother, I mean. And my friends Dave and Tony. And Will. OK, so I am apparently in the gaming minority here.

Well that’s about to change.

I recently got a SONY PSP-3000 to test drive (Yes, this means I got it for free.). Let me put it to you this way…my sons have yet to touch it. Here I thought this would be a nifty gadget to while away the hours when we drive to the mountains and fly to Europe this summer. I thought Bird and Deal could play games, watch movies, read comics, all while I traveled in peace. Forget Peace. I’m going to incite a family riot if I don’t share this thing with the boys. I am addicted to Rock Band and find nostalgic joy in reading the Archie Comics 2010-style.  Oh, this baby will accompany us on all our summer getaways, but I can’t promise it will leave my grip.

And because it also came with a fancy carrying case that Gwen Stefani designed, that SONY PSP is rightly for my use only. I mean really, Bird and Deal can learn how to share in other ways, right? Now pardon me while  go rock out to some Journey.

  1. Well, I think “gamer girl” may be a bit of a stretch, but I’ll happily welcome you into the warm and inviting bosom of gaming. When you call me to tell me you’re addicted to God of War or Grand Theft Auto THEN I’ll give you your diploma.

Archie? Really? (shakes head is dismay…) “Sugar….oh, honey honey….”

  2. Are the kids begging you to play with it yet? I bet the carrying case rocks!

  3. Oh yes! I need to see a picture of the case! I’ve always teetered on the brink of gaming. We started with Atari and have come all the way to a Wii. I even had my own Nintendo DS. Now I need to bring you over to the world of the iPad. Today, the games. Tomorrow, the world!

    Jeff, to explain myself further:

I know that games will support the double move controller(gladiator duel, etc.) config. Although, I find that to be limiting. With that config. you can not move your character. You will be a stationary object(the game could move for you but that wouldn’t be fun)-gameplay is limited.

I think it would be great to have the navigation controller with tracking capabilities, so you can move your character in the game world and have dual tracking capabilities.

Think Oblivion, Demon Souls, etc, moving through the expansive world with the navigation controller and then when I get into a battle I can use the tracking capabilities of the navigation controller to block(while also being able to strafe and move) and then the move controller to attack.

I think this is a really great idea that should be looked at. I think this would really help hardcore titles and introduce possibilities that would attract the hardcore players (We don’t just want social and shovel ware games like the critics have stated). -Also, if a game doesn’t want to use dual tracking or analog/dpad just shut off the tracking ball/deactivate analog/dpad.

I won’t keep bothering about it. Just wanted a response.

So much hype! AAAHHHH. This is like my favorite time of the year. Le Mans, Formula 1 Montreal, E3, ALMS at Lime Rock Park, days at the beach, and beautiful weather. The only one I am missing is E3. Ugh. Can’t have it all.

So, is the PS store going to update each day of the week this week? Usually the store updates on tuesday, and in one of your earlier responses you said when the store updates on wednesday…

I think last year the store updated each day, if my memory serves me correctly.

Oh, and also, did the Modnation Racers beta creations transfer over? I know the demo creations did, but I was wondering about the beta, because that is where I made my best stuff.
