5:00 5/5

Ilinap · May 5, 2010 ·

My friend Gina of Bowl Licker fame gave me a nudge on Twitter yesterday to embrace the numerical auspiciousness of the day and post a 5:00 5/5. I’m not mathy so the significance of those numbers was lost on me. However, who am I to pass up a cocktail? It’s not beneath me to feign significance in the name of fire water. Since it’s Africa hot here, and it’s Cinqo de Mayo, I figure we’re due for a double dose of 5:00 bliss this week.

And if you’re looking for a nosh to fill your belly today, check out Gina’s Chicken Tinga. I can vouch for its tastiness!

Sure to ward off hot spells and heat rash, I present to you:

White Sangria (courtesy of Gina’s cookbook Taste This!)

1 bottle dry white wine

3 shots Calvados or other apple liqueur

1 liter sparkling soda water

3 Tbs sugar

1 sliced lime

1 sliced lemon

2 ripe peaches

2 sliced green apples

1 sliced red apple

1 pint raspberries (reserve 8)

halved red and green grapes

Mix wine, Calvados, sugar, and fruit. Refrigerate and let sit a few hours or overnight. To serve, spoon fruit into wine glasses, pour liquid over the top. Garnish with a fresh raspberry or two and add a splash of soda water before serving.

Salud!

    5:00 5/5 Auspicious or just Cinqo de Mayo? Yes, I realize it’s a bit after 5:00. I’m tardy. http://www.dirtandnoise.com/2010/05/05/500-55/
